Work

Mr. Philip Yenyo was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and became involved with the Indigenous community in 1991 and joined the Committee of 500 Years of Dignity and Resistance. Later that year he joined the Lake Erie Native American Council (LENAC). In 1997 Mr. Yenyo became a Board Member of the newly established American Indian Movement of Ohio and in 2001 became the organization's Executive Director and has held that position for 21 years.

Mr. Yenyo has tirelessly worked towards the protection of Indigenous people and their rights, educating non Indigenous people on issues that affect Indigenous people. One such issue is the use of Indigenous symbols and caricatures by organizations which demean sacred symbols, especially in use of mascots.
