The Honorable Haruna Barry was born in Sukuta Town, Kombo North and raised in a province called Sinchu Gundo Village, Niamina East District, Central River Region South. He attended Kudang Lower Basic and Upper Basic School; and then proceeded to Kairaba Senior Secondary School in Kanifing.

The Honorable Haruna Barry worked with Action Aid International The Gambia as a Star Circle facilitator for 3 years and was elected into public office in 2018 to serve as a Ward Councilor, Deputy Chairperson and also now the Acting Chairman of Janjanbureh Area Council. As the political head of the municipality he coordinates and monitors the day to day activities and affairs of the Council.
